Give God What You Keep Grabbing Back - July 9, 2025

Scripture:
“Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.”
— Psalm 37:4–5 (NKJV)

Devotional:
One of the hardest areas to truly surrender to God is our desire for love. While we may trust Him with our careers, finances, or family, when it comes to relationships, we often hold on tighter, grabbing, rushing, forcing.

There’s a temptation to move too quickly. To meet someone and immediately script a future. To confuse chemistry with confirmation. To mistake emotional highs for God’s hand. And when things don’t go according to that script, it’s easy to spiral—calling too much, overthinking, performing, or trying to get someone to chase us.

But here’s the truth: you never have to chase, force, or beg for what comes from God.

Love that’s from God won’t leave you feeling confused, unwanted, anxious, or emotionally unstable. It won’t have you begging for attention or creating drama to feel seen. God is not the author of chaos, so anything that introduces confusion, instability, or rejection is not His will for your heart.

Psalm 37:4–5 reminds us of His order: Delight in Him first. When our joy and identity are anchored in the Lord, He reshapes our desires and aligns them with His will. He brings the right people into our lives at the right time, for the right reasons.

You don’t have to manipulate what’s God-ordained. And you don’t have to settle for attention when God has promised you covenant.

Surrender doesn’t mean giving up on love. It means trusting God enough to stop chasing what He hasn’t confirmed, and waiting on what He’s preparing. When we commit even this part of our lives, our dating, our emotions, our desire to be chosen—to the Lord, He brings it to pass.

Reflection/Challenge:
What part of your love life have you been trying to control? Be honest with yourself and with God. Write it down, then write over it: “I commit this to You.” Ask God to heal the places that crave validation, and align your desires with His timing and will. And if someone is bringing confusion, chaos, or emotional instability, ask yourself, Is this from God, or am I trying to make it work without Him?

Prayer:
Father God, in the Name of Jesus,
Thank You for another day. Thank You for waking me up this morning, starting me on my way, clothing me in my right mind, and allowing me to see the dawn of a brand new day.

Lord, I ask You to forgive me for all my sins and shortcomings, and I receive Your forgiveness in my heart. Create in me, O Lord, a clean heart. Purify my thoughts, and cast down every vain imagination and every high thing that tries to exalt itself against the knowledge of You, O God.

I surrender this area I keep grabbing back—my relationships, my emotions, my desire for love. I confess that I’ve tried to lead where only You should. I’ve acted from fear, not faith. But today, I commit my way to You. Teach me how to truly delight in You first. Align my heart with Yours, and prepare me for love that reflects Your peace and purpose. Remind me that I never have to chase what’s truly mine in You.

In Jesus’ name I pray, Thank God, Amen.
