He Never Counted Me Out - June 20, 2025
Scripture:
“That is how God will bless my descendants. He has made a promise that will continue forever. It is a strong promise that will never change. I know that he will always help me. He will do for me everything that I hope for.”
— 2 Samuel 23:5 (EASY)
Devotional:
Last night, I felt heavy, frustrated with myself for messing up, letting distractions in, and feeling like I almost forfeited a blessing I prayed so hard for. I had made mistakes. I’d been slacking. I even started believing the lie that maybe I wasn’t ready for what I’d asked God to do.
But then, God led me to 2 Samuel 23:5, and everything shifted.
David didn’t say God blessed him because he was perfect. He said God made a promise that would never change—one that would continue forever. And David didn’t just believe in the promise… he believed God would help him and do everything he hoped for.
That was my wake-up call.
Yes, I fell short. Yes, I let distractions get in the way. But God knew all of that—and still said, “I choose you.” He still moved. He still made a way.
Sometimes the enemy doesn’t attack with storms—he attacks with subtle distractions. You get the breakthrough, the answered prayer, the divine YES you’ve been waiting for… and right after, the enemy whispers, “You’re not worthy of this.” He knows he can’t block what God already approved, so he tries to get you to walk away from it.
But here’s the truth: God never counted you out.
When I read 2 Samuel 23:5 last night, it hit me like a wave. David, at the end of his life, didn’t boast in his perfection—he rested in God’s faithfulness. Even when he messed up, God kept His promise. That’s the same God writing my story. And yours too.
This morning, God led me to Psalm 51:17: “The sacrifice pleasing to God is a broken spirit. You will not despise a broken and humbled heart, God.” He doesn’t expect you to have it all together—He expects you to keep coming back.
Yes, I fell short. I got distracted. I entertained something that made me question my worth and my focus. But I repented, and now I’m back. And the good news is, God never left.
If you’re like me—wrestling with regret, trying to find your footing again—know this: your failure didn’t cancel your future. God is still moving. He’s still working on your behalf. And I truly believe something BIG is about to break open. I feel it. I’m expecting it.
Reflection/Challenge:
Where have you counted yourself out when God never did? Write it down. Then write this over it: “God’s promise to me is strong. He will do everything I’ve hoped for.” Get back in position. Stay ready.
Prayer:
Father God In the Name of Jesus,
Lord, thank You for choosing me, even when I lose focus. Thank You for factoring in my flaws and still making a way. Help me to stay anchored in Your promise, not my performance. I trust that You will do everything I’ve hoped for, and more. I’m expecting something BIG today, and I receive it with faith. In Jesus’ name, amen.
