Your Will, Not Mine - October 21, 2025
Scripture:
“Father, if You are willing, take this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.” — Luke 22:42 (NIV)
Devotional:
Sometimes the hardest prayer to pray is, “Lord, Your will, not mine.”
It’s not easy to let go of what you thought life would look like, the timing you hoped for, the plans you made, or the outcome you imagined. But true faith isn’t proven when everything goes our way; it’s proven when we choose to trust God’s way.
Jesus prayed that prayer in Gethsemane, moments before His greatest trial. He was honest, “If it’s possible, take this cup from Me.” But even in His pain, He surrendered, “Not My will, but Yours be done.” That’s what surrender looks like: honesty wrapped in obedience.
There will be days when you don’t understand the delay, the detour, or the denial. But God’s will is never about withholding, it’s about becoming. He’s not punishing you; He’s preparing you. His will is shaping your heart, strengthening your faith, and positioning you for what only He can give.
Surrender doesn’t mean weakness. It’s the highest form of trust. It says, “God, I may not understand, but I still believe You know best.”
Challenge/Reflection:
What’s one area of your life you’ve been holding onto tightly? Can you release it to God today and truly mean, “Your will, not mine”?
Prayer:
Father God, in the Name of Jesus,
Thank You for another day. Thank You for waking me up this morning, starting me on my way, clothing me in my right mind, and allowing me to see the dawn of a brand new day.
Lord, I ask You to forgive me for all my sins and shortcomings, and I receive Your forgiveness in my heart. Create in me, O Lord, a clean heart. Purify my thoughts, and cast down every vain imagination and every high thing that tries to exalt itself against the knowledge of You, O God.
Father, today I surrender my plans, desires, and expectations to You. Even when I don’t understand what You’re doing, I trust that You are good and that Your will is perfect. Help me not to resist Your plan but to rest in it. Teach me to follow where You lead, even when it’s uncomfortable. Let Your will be done in my life: fully, completely, and without fear. In Jesus Name I Pray, Thank God, Amen.
Declaration:
“God’s will is better than my plan. I trust His timing, His process, and His purpose. Even when I don’t understand, I surrender.”
