Lord, Make Me Faithful and True - September 23, 2025
Scripture:
“But I will sing of Your power; Yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning; For You have been my defense And refuge in the day of my trouble.” - Psalms 59:16 NKJV
“Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem… if ye can find a man, if there be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it.” - Jeremiah 5:1 (KJV)
Devotional:
Psalm 59 shows David surrounded by enemies, yet clinging to God as his defense. Even in danger, he declared that he would sing of God’s mercy every morning. That is faithfulness, not being swayed by fear, frustration, or opposition, but remaining steady in love and trust.
Jeremiah 5 paints a different picture: God was searching Jerusalem for even one person who lived with justice and sought truth. It’s a sobering reminder that faithfulness and truth are rare, but precious to God. He’s not impressed by appearances; He desires integrity, people whose lives reflect His character even when no one else is watching.
To pray, “Lord, make me faithful and true,” is to invite God to refine your heart. It’s to ask Him to strip away compromise, hypocrisy, and self-centeredness. It’s a prayer that says: “Lord, help me be steady when life is shaky. Help me to be honest when it’s easier to hide. Help me to be devoted when the world is distracted.”
God Himself is faithful and true (Revelation 19:11). When we ask Him to shape us in His image, He transforms us into reflections of His own nature. And in a world full of inconsistency and lies, nothing glorifies Him more than a life that is faithful and true.
Reflection/Challenge:
Ask yourself today: Am I faithful to God when it costs me something? Am I truthful in my words and actions when no one is looking? Write a short prayer in your own words asking God to align your character with His faithfulness and truth.
Prayer:
Father God, in the Name of Jesus,
Thank You for another day. Thank You for waking me up this morning, starting me on my way, clothing me in my right mind, and allowing me to see the dawn of a brand new day.
Lord, I ask You to forgive me for all my sins and shortcomings, and I receive Your forgiveness in my heart. Create in me, O Lord, a clean heart. Purify my thoughts, and cast down every vain imagination and every high thing that tries to exalt itself against the knowledge of You, O God.
Lord, make me faithful and true. When distractions come, steady me. When fear rises, strengthen me. When compromise tempts me, convict me. Shape me into a vessel of integrity, a reflection of Your heart. May my life be marked by loyalty to You and honesty before others. Thank You for being my defense, my refuge, and my truth. In Jesus Name I Pray, Thank God, Amen.
