You Don’t Need to Understand the Why, Just Trust the Who - September 19, 2025
Scripture:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” - Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV
Devotional:
The human heart longs for explanations. When we face loss, delay, or disappointment, we naturally ask “why?” Yet Scripture gently shifts our focus from understanding circumstances to trusting God’s character.
God never promised to answer all of our whys on this side of eternity. Instead, He promised His presence, His faithfulness, and His wisdom to guide us through. The “Who”, the Lord Himself, is greater than the mysteries we can’t solve. He is sovereign, good, and incapable of failure.
When we demand the why, we risk frustration, because human logic cannot always interpret divine wisdom. But when we anchor ourselves in the Who, we find peace even in unanswered seasons. Knowing Him is enough to silence fear and sustain hope. Trusting God is not about having every answer; it’s about having confidence in His character. He is faithful. He is sovereign. He is good, even when life doesn’t look good.
At the cross, the disciples didn’t understand the why. They only saw loss, pain, and disappointment. But three days later, the resurrection revealed the Who, Jesus, risen and victorious. In the same way, your “why” may still be hidden, but the “Who” is always with you, working all things together for your good.
Reflection/Challenge:
Instead of asking God for explanations today, ask Him for trust. Write down one unanswered “why” in your life. Then surrender it to Him in prayer, declaring: “I may not understand the why, but I trust the Who.”
Prayer:
Father God, in the Name of Jesus,
Thank You for another day. Thank You for waking me up this morning, starting me on my way, clothing me in my right mind, and allowing me to see the dawn of a brand new day.
Lord, I ask You to forgive me for all my sins and shortcomings, and I receive Your forgiveness in my heart. Create in me, O Lord, a clean heart. Purify my thoughts, and cast down every vain imagination and every high thing that tries to exalt itself against the knowledge of You, O God.
Lord, I don’t need to know every why. I just need to know You. Anchor my heart in Your faithfulness when answers seem far away. Teach me to trust Your hand even when I cannot trace it. My confidence is not in explanations but in the One who holds my life together. In Jesus Name I Pray, Thank God, Amen.
