Thanking God In Advance - September 4, 2025

Scripture:

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” - Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Devotional:

When you begin your day with gratitude, before the email comes, before the call back, before the answer arrives, you’re aligning your heart with heaven’s perspective. You’re reminding your soul that God’s word is already settled, His promises are already yes and amen, and your victory is already secured in Christ.

When we say, “Lord, thank You in advance,” we are choosing faith over fear, trust over doubt, and praise over worry. Thanksgiving before the breakthrough is powerful because it shifts our focus away from our circumstances and onto the character of God.

But know this: when you live with this kind of faith, there will be a lot that tries to come against you. Doubt will whisper. The enemy will send distractions. People may question your hope. Circumstances may try to convince you that nothing is changing. Yet every attack is just confirmation that you’re walking into the place God has prepared for you. The pressure is proof of purpose. Hold steady, because thanksgiving is your weapon, and faith is your shield.

Thanking God in advance is not ignoring reality, it’s declaring a greater reality: that God is in control, that His promises are true, and that His timing is perfect.

So often, we wait until after the miracle, the provision, or the answered prayer to give thanks. But thanking Him in advance is a bold statement of belief. It’s saying, “I trust You enough to praise You now, before it happens, because I know You’re faithful.”

This kind of faith mirrors what Jesus demonstrated before raising Lazarus, He lifted His eyes to heaven and thanked the Father before the miracle even took place. Gratitude in advance honors God’s sovereignty and invites His peace into our hearts while we wait.

Reflection/Challenge:

What area of your life feels the heaviest right now? Instead of waiting until things shift, practice gratitude today. Speak by faith and thank God for the answer before you see it. Write down three things you are thanking Him in advance for and declare them out loud.

Prayer:
Father God, in the Name of Jesus,
Thank You for another day. Thank You for waking me up this morning, starting me on my way, clothing me in my right mind, and allowing me to see the dawn of a brand new day.

Lord, I ask You to forgive me for all my sins and shortcomings, and I receive Your forgiveness in my heart. Create in me, O Lord, a clean heart. Purify my thoughts, and cast down every vain imagination and every high thing that tries to exalt itself against the knowledge of You, O God.

Lord, thank You for what You’re doing in my life today, even before I see it. Strengthen my faith to trust that You’re moving on my behalf. Help me not to be shaken by distractions, doubts, or opposition, but to keep my eyes fixed on You. Remind me that every battle I face is already won in Christ Jesus. I choose to thank You now for the victory, for the provision, for the breakthrough, and for the peace that only You can give. In Jesus Name I Pray, Thank God, Amen.
