Control Your Emotions - August 26, 2025
Scripture:
“Whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.” -Proverbs 16:32 ESV
Devotional:
It’s easy to think the hardest battles are the ones fought outwardly such as career struggles, financial stress, health concerns, or relational disappointments. But Scripture reminds us the fiercest battle is often within.
Anyone can swing a sword in anger, but it takes real courage to pause, breathe, and let God’s Spirit lead your response. It’s easy to lose control when people push your buttons, when life feels unfair, or when anger rises quickly. But the Bible says patience is more powerful than armies and more effective than brute force. A soldier may conquer a city, but a patient person conquers themselves, and that is the greater victory.
When you have control over your emotions, you’re not easily shaken by what others say or do. You refuse to give people the power to pull you out of character. And more importantly, you show that the Spirit of God is truly at work in you.
Anger makes us reactive, but patience makes us discerning. Losing control can destroy relationships, opportunities, and peace. But controlling emotions creates space for wisdom, clarity, and victory. Every time you resist the urge to lash out, you’re not just holding your tongue, you’re winning a battle against the enemy’s plan to destabilize you.
Reflection/Challenge:
Where are your emotions being tested the most? Where have your emotions been steering you lately, toward peace or conflict? Think of one area where anger, frustration, or impatience has been stealing your strength. Today, surrender that to God. Ask God to help you respond with patience instead of impulse. Choose to pause, pray, and walk in wisdom before you react.
Prayer:
Father God, in the Name of Jesus,
Thank You for another day. Thank You for waking me up this morning, starting me on my way, clothing me in my right mind, and allowing me to see the dawn of a brand new day.
Lord, I ask You to forgive me for all my sins and shortcomings, and I receive Your forgiveness in my heart. Create in me, O Lord, a clean heart. Purify my thoughts, and cast down every vain imagination and every high thing that tries to exalt itself against the knowledge of You, O God.
Lord, thank You for reminding me that real strength is not in my fists or my words, but in my patience. Help me to rule my spirit. Help me to control my emotions, to not let anger rule me, but to let Your Spirit lead me. Teach me to pause, to pray, to lean on Your Spirit instead of my flesh, and to walk in peace even when everything in me wants to react. I surrender my battles to You and trust that patience will bring me into victory. May my emotions honor You and lead. In Jesus’ name I pray, Thank God, Amen.
