Seek First the Kingdom - August 22, 2025
Scripture:
“Instead, always think about the things that are important in the kingdom of heaven. Always do what God shows you is right. Then he will also give you the things that you need each day.” -Matthew 6:33 (EASY)
Devotional:
This verse is a reminder to realign our priorities. Too often, we place energy into chasing what the world defines as success, when God calls us to chase Him. Worrying about tomorrow, striving endlessly for provision, or stretching ourselves thin for recognition only leaves us empty.
But when our focus shifts to God’s kingdom, His righteousness, His will, His ways; something supernatural happens. The same God who clothes the lilies and feeds the birds ensures that our daily needs are met. It doesn’t mean we won’t work or plan, but it means we don’t live enslaved to fear or stress.
God wants our “yes” to Him before our yes to anything else. When we prioritize obedience, prayer, worship, and living righteously, we place ourselves in alignment with His promises. The world teaches us to secure our future first, but Jesus teaches us to trust Him first, and let Him secure the future.
Reflection/Challenge:
Where in your life are you trying to control things instead of fully seeking God’s kingdom? Today, challenge yourself to release that area into His hands. Instead of worrying about what you lack, ask: Am I seeking His will here? Am I living in a way that honors Him? If the answer is yes, trust that He will provide what you need in His timing.
Prayer:
Father God, in the Name of Jesus,
Thank You for another day. Thank You for waking me up this morning, starting me on my way, clothing me in my right mind, and allowing me to see the dawn of a brand new day.
Lord, I ask You to forgive me for all my sins and shortcomings, and I receive Your forgiveness in my heart. Create in me, O Lord, a clean heart. Purify my thoughts, and cast down every vain imagination and every high thing that tries to exalt itself against the knowledge of You, O God.
Lord, today I choose to seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Forgive me for the times I’ve let worry, fear, or ambition pull me away from You. I trust that as I focus on what matters most, Your will and Your glory. You will take care of every need in my life. Order my steps, align my heart, and let my life reflect total trust in You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Thank God, Amen.
