Delight In The Giver, Not Just The Gift - April 23, 2025
Scripture:
”Then you shall delight yourself in the Lord; and I will cause you to ride on the high hills of the earth, and feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father. The mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
—Isaiah 58:14 (NKJV)
Devotional:
What does it really mean to delight yourself in the Lord? It means exactly what it says—to find your deepest joy, satisfaction, and fulfillment in God Himself. It’s not about surface-level praise or temporary happiness based on circumstances. It’s about intentionally choosing to root your happiness in who God is—not just in what He can do. He alone is worthy of that devotion.
But God doesn’t stop there. When we genuinely delight ourselves in Him, He promises to elevate us—to lift us to spiritual heights, to feed us with the inheritance of Jacob, and to grant us the desires of our hearts that align with His will. That’s not always the car, the job, or the relationship we imagined—it’s something far greater. It’s peace, wisdom, strength, provision, good health, and so much more.
Many of us want the benefits before we seek the Giver. I had to learn that firsthand. If our confidence and joy are rooted in things, then when those things are shaken or removed, our peace goes with them. But when we delight in the Lord first, we gain unshakable joy and unwavering strength. Because no matter what happens, our foundation is in Him.
So today, make it personal. Seek a true encounter with God. Learn to rest in His presence. Learn to enjoy Him—not just what He gives. Put your everything in Him, and watch what He does for you. He won’t fail you. He never has, and He never will.
Reflection/Challenge:
Take 15 intentional minutes today to do nothing but focus on God. No requests. No distractions. Just praise. Thank Him. Sing to Him. Write a letter to Him. Spend that time delighting in Him—and see how your spirit begins to shift.
Prayer:
Lord, I want to delight in You—not just in what You can do for me, but in who You are. Forgive me for the times I’ve chased blessings without seeking Your presence. Teach me to find joy in You, peace in You, and confidence in You. I know that when I place You first, everything else will follow according to Your will. Thank You for being the God who provides, sustains, and fills my heart with lasting joy. I trust You with my life, my purpose, and my future. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
