Listen To God, Not Yourself - May 10, 2025
Scripture:
”Trust in the Lord with ALL of your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.”
— Proverbs 3: 5-6 (NLT)
Devotional:
Let’s be honest, sometimes the loudest voice in the room is your own.
You’re praying and trusting God, but your mind is busy rehearsing the worst.
You say, “God, I trust You,” but five minutes later your thoughts say,
“But what if it doesn’t work? What if I fail? What if I’m not enough?”
That voice, the one that’s based in fear, past experiences, and anxiety —
is NOT GOD!!!!
Let’s take this a step further:
Not only are those thoughts not from God — they are prima facie evidence (yes, law school language!) that they directly contradict His Word.
God clearly tells us in Proverbs 3:5 not to lean on our own understanding, and to trust Him completely.
So when thoughts like “What if I fail?” or “What if I’m not enough?” come up, they shift your focus from God’s ability to your own — and that’s not faith.
You didn’t put faith in yourself.
You didn’t place hope in your own strength.
You put your faith in the One who can do anything but fail.
You put your hope in the One who has ALL strength.
So when doubt rises, don’t argue with it — dismiss it.
Let God’s Word be the standard.
If it contradicts His promises, it’s not truth — it’s noise.
God doesn’t speak in spirals.
God doesn’t speak in shame.
God doesn’t play out your fears just to “prepare” you.
Your mind might mean well… but it is not your Master.
That’s why today’s reminder is simple:
Listen to God. Not yourself.
God says you’re called.
God says you’re covered.
God says He’s already working it out — even while you’re waiting.
So next time your thoughts try to get loud, remind them who’s in charge.
Let God have the final say in your decisions, your emotions, and your day.
Reflection/Challenge:
Every time you experience a thought that conflicts with God’s word says, challenge it with the TRUTH of God’s Word! Keep doing this with every single thought!!
Prayer:
Lord, silence the voice in me that speaks from fear.
I want to trust You more than I trust my own thoughts.
Lead me. Correct me. Steady me.
And when my emotions rise, help me choose Your voice over everything else.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
