God, Is This You? - May 4, 2025
Scripture:
“Anyone who chooses to do what God wants will know about my teaching. They will know whether it comes from God, or whether it comes from my own thoughts.”
— John 7:17 (EASY)
Devotional:
One of the hardest parts of walking with God is learning to discern His voice from our own. We often ask, “Did I receive this from God… or is this just me?” It’s a real question—because sometimes we want something so deeply, we convince ourselves God said it. Other times, we fear it’s just our thoughts because we don’t feel qualified to hear from Him.
Our minds are trained to protect us, to choose what feels good or makes the most sense. But God isn’t limited to what feels good. He speaks in peace, not always in comfort. He speaks in stillness, not always in loud signs. And He speaks in truth—even when it challenges what we think we want.
So how do we know? Jesus said that if we choose to do God’s will, we will know. That means the more we stay surrendered, the more clearly we’ll hear. When our desire is truly to please Him—not just our feelings—we’ll begin to notice the difference between soul noise and Spirit-led instruction.
Reflection/Challenge:
Take just 10 minutes today in silence….no music, no distractions. Ask God one question: “Lord, is this from You or from me?” Then, simply listen. Write down the first thoughts that come without judgment. Over time, your spirit will begin to recognize His voice more clearly.
Prayer:
Lord, I don’t want to follow my own voice and call it Yours. Teach me to slow down, to surrender my desires, and to truly listen for You. Align my will with Yours. Speak clearly and give me wisdom to recognize when it’s You. I trust You to lead me.
